Key figures
  • US online casino revenue reached $10.74 billion in 2025, up 27.6%, according to the American Gaming Association.
  • Michigan reported $3.1 billion in gross receipts, New Jersey $2.91 billion in Internet Gaming Win and Pennsylvania $2.78 billion in iGaming revenue for 2025.
  • New Jersey's online casinos won $2.40 billion in January to September 2026, 13.2% more than a year earlier.
  • States measure revenue differently, especially in how they treat promotional credits, so state totals are not like-for-like.

Online casino revenue in the United States comes from seven states with regulated markets: New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia, Connecticut, Delaware and Rhode Island. Their combined commercial online casino revenue was $10.74 billion in 2025, a 27.6% increase on 2024, according to the American Gaming Association. Michigan, New Jersey and Pennsylvania each reported between $2.7 billion and $3.1 billion on their own measures, and together account for most of the national total.

Maine has legalised online casino but had not launched by October 2026, so it has no revenue data yet.

Pennsylvania's two numbers

Pennsylvania is the state most often quoted with two different totals. The Gaming Control Board's year-end release gives $2.78 billion for 2025, and this is the base its tax is calculated on: applying the statutory 54% rate to online slots and 16% to tables and poker reproduces the board's reported tax. The AGA and Legal Sports Report give about $3.46 billion, which appears to be revenue before promotional deductions, although we did not find a board document that defines that series. We use the board's figure in our table because it is the regulator's own published number and the tax base. If you quote the larger figure, say which series it is.

Connecticut has a similar gap. Payments to the state of $108.3 million at 18% imply a payment base of about $601 million on our arithmetic, below the AGA's $707.5 million. The state's data notes say the payment base is revenue after promotional deductions, which have been capped at 15% of win since October 2023.

US dollars. Pennsylvania's September 2026 total comprises online slots $197.4m, tables $49.7m and poker $2.3m. Pennsylvania's fiscal year July 2025 to June 2026 totalled $2,933,453,989 (+18.4%). Mount Airy stopped offering online casino in Pennsylvania in September 2025, which affects comparisons.

The AGA's latest monthly tracker, for August 2026, put national online casino revenue at $1.03 billion, up 12.3% on August 2025. Growth has slowed from the 27.6% of 2025 but remains well ahead of land-based gaming.

Why state figures are not like-for-like

The biggest difference is promotions. Michigan counts free play inside gross receipts and allows a deduction for it in adjusted gross receipts, but that deduction is phased out: capped at 10% of gross receipts in the first three years, then 6% and 4%, and zero from year six. Connecticut caps promotional deductions at 15% of win. New Jersey reports Internet Gaming Win and taxes it at 19.75% plus a 2.5% investment alternative tax. Fiscal years also differ: Pennsylvania and West Virginia headline July to June totals, while New Jersey and Michigan publish calendar months. Our guide to reading revenue reports walks through these differences, and our state tax rates table lists every rate.
